This is apparently the book from the 80s which no one in the ASL/Deaf community uses to teach anymore, this was not apparent to me, so when I turned it in, they laughed at me, saying, and I quote, "lol this book is so old. Get your $$$ back!!!"
Five stars for the book , Purchased as advertised to be in poor conditionI bought this fully aware of the advertised condition , which was honest and accurate .This is a book of value for those wanting to learn sign language
There was nothing wrong with the book when I purchased it, except for I need the workbook on units 1-6, not just unit 1. However the actors who sign on the DVD really bothered me. This is supposed to be a level one ASL workbook, and they were signing rather quickly and this DVD did not come with the repeat option, as the larger workbook does. If you blink you miss something and have to start over completely. I understand that it is supposed to get you used to interacting with "natural signers", but it is too much to take in on your first day.
A little hard to follow it was easier to learn from the ASL teacher herself than this book. So I really didn't use the book because it is confusing. If you need this for an ASL class then your best bet is to pay close attention if you want this book to learn on your own it is going to get confusing and you won't learn the proper hand orientation and movement.
I loved this book and got it for ASL 1 college class. I believe it really helps if you're interested in seeing different prospectives about sign. If youre interested in getting this book. School assigned ISBN for daughters ASL 1 class. Appears outdated but works quite well per my asl teacher friend.
Easy to follow , using it for my knowledge
It's been while since I studied American Sigh Language that I decided to buy this book and brush up on my ring rust and when I do. I can buy the other volumes and continue to learn more ASL and interact with the deaf community and make new friends their too. Since I'm hard of hearing myself. I can find people who will understand me too.
