I am not a normal prospect for taking the Enrolled Agent examination. My background is in financial planning and structured settlements and I have never been a paid, or unpaid, tax preparer at any point in my life. However, I thought that taking the Enrolled Agent's exam would allow me to learn tax law from a different perspective.I really liked the EA review book and give it my highest recommendation. It was easy to read but had all the information I needed. I could only think of one question from the test that it did not cover (or if it did, I don't remember seeing it.) The practice tests and quizzes were excellent and a couple of the questions were almost identical to those that showed up on the test.I passed. It does not tell you how well you did but I suspect I made it by a good margin. The book gave me a chance to figure out where my strengths and weaknesses were and use my limited study time effectively. After I walked out of the exam room, I immediately ordered the second book for the next test and suspect I will use this series for all three exams. One complaint would be that there is not a Kindle version. I do 99% of my book reading on Kindle and it would make it much simpler to study in places like airports etc but if you want to be an Enrolled Agent, this is definitely the book to have.

From an instructional stand point, these books are slightly below average. I give 3 stars because I did indeed pass the exams on first try using nothing but these books. But I walked in to them expecting not to. I wonder if these authors have ever taught before, because the format is not conducive to learning the material well. They are very vague at times on some of the subject matter, but my largest issue is the way they word things. It is similar to the tax code itself, which if you have ever tried reading, is a challenge in reading comprehension similar to deciphering mandarin. I had to make cliff notes for myself and describe in a simple sentence or two what they spent an entire page talking about. In the end, I went out and supplemented my studies with some other books to gain enough confidence to walk into the tests. I would either suggest the same or get another book. I will say the one good thing are the questions. They were fairly reflective of the tests themselves and they have a ton of them in there. (Approx. 350 questions - and since the test is 100 questions long, you can get about 3 accurate practice tests out of this book)

Good book, full of info, easy-to-read format. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5...you really need to purchase the workbook that goes along with this review book. Some questions in the workbook cover things that were NOT covered in this review book, and that were tested on the EA exam. I did just finish taking all of my tests and did pass all 3 on the first try. (I highly recommend also taking the free EA practice exam questions on Fast Forward Academy website, as well....there were some things on FFA that were NOT covered in either the PassKey Review book or the workbook.) Overall, it was a good book to review for the EA exam!

I used this as a study guide and passed all my tests the first time. Don't get the idea the tests were easy, but this book was so well organized and inclusive that the memorization and familiarization processes went very well. The whole point of the EA testing process is to demonstrate an awareness, and basic knowledge of a wide range of tax practices. This book does a good job of presenting the essentials while pointing to the IRS publications, forms, and IRC codes and laws that are the source.

Maybe I'm being a little too critical by only giving this four stars after I passed all three sections on my first try in less than a month, but I thought it was fair to reflect that there were many things I was uncertain about on each section. I think this book is a wonderful resource - one that I would recommend to anyone looking to sit for the EA exam - but that it will only prepare you so much. This book will give you the knowledge to accurately answer 85% of the test questions. The remaining 15% is for you to use your logic to determine the answer. The critical thinking skills required for the final est. 15% of the questions is great practice for what being an EA is really like. It's not all black and white; you'll need to know how to work your way through a problem. Overall, a great resource. I do highly recommend this book to anyone interested in pursuing their EA.

The work book is important in my opinion because it lets you practice before the exam and refresh all the knowledge you need for it.By the way, I have tried Gleim (it looks like someone copy and paste the text, not easy to read as Passkey EA Review is) and Tax MAMA is too pricey and she uses Gleim as well (I saw my friend interact a couple of occasion in her online class). I actually got discouraged to pass the EA exam when I studied from GLEIM because it is so dry (I bought Gleim for 2 years and let them dust since it made me believed that the EA exam was very complicated).By the way I am not affiliated with Passkey and this only reflects my opinion. I just took the time to put this review out there because Passkey EA review deserves it. It is very affordable and got me through all my examinations which I am very happy for.
