This book is one of the three-part Florida series by the same authors, and it is as good as the others. We get such a thorough treatment of the area, from writers who obviously know and love it, that it's hard to imagine a better book for this purpose.The coverage is comprehensive, from the major cities to small rural communities. Listings are selective, as the authors have done a fine job presenting the accommodations, restaurants and sites they know will be of most interest. I lived in Vero Beach for a time, and I know that the sites they chose from the town are the best options.Two things really stand out about this book. As with the other Florida guides, this one gives us a complete picture of the region's natural attractions. Obviously, those attractions are a major tourist draw. But what's even better is that the authors have gone so far as to present the reader with many fine historical facts and sites, which are frequently overlooked in South Florida. In that way, the book is really an excellent "beyond the beaten path" guide, giving us much more than the locations of the best beaches and seafood restaurants.I highly recommend the three Explorer's Guides for Florida (including this one), because they offer the best balance of history, culture, outdoors, and quality listing of all available guides. The traveler will get a balanced picture of the state, and will be presented with many more travel options than previously thought.

I spend a couple months in south Florida every winter, and the Explorer's Guide hasn't steered me wrong yet. I had the 1st edition and snapped up the revised 2nd edition as soon as it was available. Very good recommendations for off-the-beaten-path restaurants and places to visit. Based on the number of dog-eared pages, this is my most used guide!

I am scheduled to visit Tampa Bay, the Amazon description states *This completely revised second edition of the definitive South Florida guidebook offers coverage of Tampa * Perfect, right? Not so much, Tampa is barely covered, just a couple of entries. Don't know who wrote that description, Amazon or the publisher, so misleading.

Best South Florida Guide I've seen.

Great travel guide for non-touristy places to visit, eat, stay, hike, bike, etc. Really enjoyed how it was put together. Is a constant companion when travelling through south Florida.

I've read through about 30 of Countryman Press's explorer's guides, and this is one of the best. It's incredibly comprehensive, but there is enough key language in there to help you filter through and pick what's best (since most of us are almost always limited on time and can only focus on a few things to do per trip).There is a ton to see in Southern Florida, and this book will get you there better than any other I've seen so far.I just wish there was a star or some other system that indicated the CAN'T MISS attractions. Some of the other explorer's guides have that.
